Invited to present at the first GSMA Development Summit in 2013, Dr. Wetter emphasised the importance of transparency and data sharing in humanitarian situations. Joining speakers from Refugees United, Vodacom and Souktel, Dr. Wetter led discussions in the Disaster Response session.
The GSMA Development Summit (now Mobile 360), debuted in November 2013. Drawing on global expertise from “senior executives and stakeholders from the mobile industry and development community”¹, the summit was held to facilitate discussions on the opportunities, challenges and impact of mobile technology. Dr. Wetter was invited to attend as a guest speaker, leading a dialogue in the “Enabling Disaster Affected Communities through Diverse Mobile Services” breakout group. The wealth of data and access available to mobile network operators (MNOs) was a key discussion point, as transparency and data sharing are crucial to the CDR analysis techniques Flowminder pioneered.
